Antasari officially files an appeal to state court

Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Antasari Azhar has filed his appeal to the South Jakarta District Court, a lawyer says.
Antasari’s lawyer Juniver Girsang said Monday that the appeal was based on the court’s lack of solid ground to prove his client’s involvement in the murder of businessman Nasruddin Zulkarnaen.
“Antasari deserves his freedom as he holds no responsibility [in the murder case],” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Last month, the court found Antasari guilty of initiating and planning the murder of Nasruddin, and sentenced him to 18 years in jail.
The prosecutors believed the murder was masterminded by Antasari with help from Williardi Wizard, former South Jakarta Police chief, and businessman Jerry Hermawan Lo, who allegedly arranged the recruitment of the hit men, and Sigid Haryo Wibisono, a media tycoon who reportedly provided financial backup.In separate hearings, the judges sentenced Sigid to 15 year in jail, Williardi to 12 years and Jerry to 5 years.
